Jansen is 7 months as of the 7th and we rang it in with Bronchiolitis. We started the week before with a cough that turned into croup. Our poor little mister sounded like a sad little seal barking and crying. We gave up with phone consultations with the doc by Thurs. and just took him in to see the doc. Good thing we did too, we found out he had Bronchiolitis at that point. We then had to start breathing treatments every four hours and that is where we are currently. We haven't gotten "better" but we haven't gotten worse and the doc says that is the key for now. When we stop getting worse is when we start getting better so hopefully that will be very soon.
Richard and I both caught Jansen's bug. We are both snot-nosed and irritable. I do claim lack of decent sleep for over a week as part of my irritibility though. Jansen and I are sleeping together in the spare room until this all passes and I am awake most of the night thumping his back through coughing fits or nursing on demand so that he keeps his fluid levels up. He's had a hard time eating enough at a time to keep hydrated because of his stuffy nose so now it's whenever he wants even if it's only an hour after the last time and whenever in the night he wakes. Richard and I are trying today forth to not be snipy since we both feel crappy and we are both doing Jansen's treatments and care taking now. We decided to be extra nice to each other until we all feel better.
I do have us as packed as I can get us for our trip. I can't believe just how much we need to take now that we have an infant. Luckily he is allowed his own suitcase AND carry-on for our flight! We should come back a tad lighter though since we'll use a good share of the food and diapers that I had to pack for Jansen!
We are leaving for Houston Friday night and will fly out from there Saturday morning for Trinidad until the following Saturday. My Mom says to expect a good couple of days of sinus clearing for all of us in the salty sea air since we are all so stuffy right now. I guess I'll have to pack Kleenex. I need to add that to the list!! It will be a relief to hear us all breathe clearly though! Not sure if we will be visiting Tobago or Barbados while we are there, but it seems one of the two side trips is in the works during our stay. I am very excited to see Richard's Mom and have her finally get to meet her newest Grandson. OK... so the tropics for this formerly landlocked gal isn't too bad of a thought either. I am really looking forward to seeing the places Richard haunted as a kid and trying some new and exciting food. I just have to watch out for the fish/seafood since we will be on islands. I'd hate to have a major allergy attack on vacation. Since I have never been anywhere outside of the continental US this is quite exciting for me!! I have a passport and will actually be using it this time (unlike the Scotland episode in college)! I could be dangerous now that I have this thing though.... oh, the places I could go now!! It's as freeing as getting my driver's license!! Now to just become wealthy enough to do all the traveling that I'd like!!
Well, off to give Jansen his next treatment and head for bed. Love to you all and I'll update when we get back from our trip. I'm sure there will be TONS of pics then!!
The breathing treatments... No fun at all. =-(
