Happy Halloween!!!

Jansen was a sock monkey for Halloween. It was so cute! I didn't see any others anywhere we went and everyone commented about how adorable and original he was. I was one proud Momma tonight! We started out the evening by going to a local photographer that takes canned goods in return for a couple of copies of a pic of the kiddo in costume for FREE!! WaHoo! It was like Mommy's Trick or Treat! He was really camera shy for them, so I'm not certain how they will turn out. I ended up having to hold him on my lap and I was DEFINITELY not picture ready. Maybe they can somehow magically erase me with some photo trick! We went to Safe Kids Halloween after that. It is where one of the local news stations sponsors rooms at the hotel/convention center and local businesses get one of the rooms to decorate and pass out goodies. It's really a nice set-up and there's thousands that come out for it so we got to see tons of cute costumes tonight! Jansen was a bit spell-bound I think. He was also really shy when people would say anything to him. He was curious and attentive when they weren't speaking, even if they were looking directly back at him, but as soon as they would speak he'd tuck into my shoulder. I could forget about putting him down AT ALL, too! The entire time we were waiting in line to get in and then the whole walk through the hotel I had to carry him. After that we went to the local Family Fall Festival for some festivities right down the street from our house and again I had to hold him the whole time. We then came home and he was over his shyness, so we had a home photo shoot so that we have some pics of him smiling for this first costumed Halloween! I know some of the first pics when I had to hold him and take the pics are blurry, but I just couldn't leave any of them out! Jonathan and Richard were at the OU game for Jonathan's birthday coming up so Jansen and I were on our own. It's really hard to get good pics when you have to hold the kiddo and the camera! By the way... OU WON!! It was a great game for them to get to go see. If I can get some of the game pics from Jonathan's Mom they'll get a separate post of the game!
Waiting in line to get in to Safe Kids.
Chatting it up with Momma.
Awwwww.
Nearing the entrance now.

Posing at home.
Working the camera! {The actual sock monkey was a gift from his Fairy Laura (Godmother) to go along with his costume! He loves it!}
Done... time to play!
... or attempt to steal the camera!
"Monkey-ing" around with the pumpkins.

Pumpkin Jim looks like he was ready for the camera to be put away!
I did get one standing picture of him with the pumpkins! Yeah! (The table is up against the closed windows, just so no one panics that he's at the edge of the table!)
Momma's little sock monkey!
Monkey Down!!
I just thought a "tail" shot was too cute to pass up.

Half man, Half monkey!

It was a fun night! I have to get creative next year to top this year's costume though. What did I start here?!?!

Spider Shirt

It took us several attempts since this little guy is SO BUSY, but I finally got a really good picture of Jansen's spider shirt that he got from Ann, Allyn, Adalyn and Dylan for Halloween! It is a really cool shirt so I wanted everyone to see it!

Pumpkin Carving '09 Edition

Last weekend was so busy that we missed getting to carve pumpkins while Jonathan was here. I had to do the pumpkin night with just Jansen because even Richard had some function for work that night. I had waited until Thursday, but we were running short of time by then so we had to go ahead with it or miss out! Here's a photo "journal" of our evening of carving!
Jansen put the first spoon in the little pumpkin (you can just make out the handle sticking in there) after he saw me start on the big one, but got it stuck in the guts and couldn't pull it out so he grabbed the other spoon to dive into the big pumpkin!

So, Guts are gross apparently and he decided to put the lid back on so he didn't have to scoop them I guess... spoon was still stuck in there and poking up a bit though so it didn't work to well to put the top on it!
Somehow he had smuggled his frog squirter bath toy to the carving table and it ended up with the same fate as the spoon in that little pumpkin. I was beginning to think that we had a carnivorous pumpkin that ate whatever entered it or something!
This is as far as I got help. The rest I had to finish solo. Daddy had gotten home just in time to intercept tired tantrums that were starting so it was "Hi Daddy," Bath, and Bed for him!
Finished pumpkins!

Ooooo.... Spooky!

It sounded like Jansen was calling the little pumpkin, Jim. I don't know where or when he would have picked up "Jim" but it really sounded like that's what he was calling it. So, we have a no-name pumpkin and Pumpkin Jim. Cousin Harper has her Pumpkin Steve and we'll just have to go with Pumpkin Jim, I guess!

Hurt Momma

Sooooo, while I was on the phone with Grandma Vicki a couple of days ago Jansen decided he'd hit me in the face with his book. I told him no and he giggled, grabbed the ribbon closure for said book and whipped it at my head. The corner of the book caught me right center of the forehead (that is not a zit, it is the resulting cut). I took the book away from him, told my mother what had just happened, reached up to put a tiny bit of pressure on the throbbing (that sucker really hurt), and pulled my hand away with the fingers full of blood! Ack! It looks like a tiny nick (which in reality it IS), but it bled and hurt quite a bit. I was so very shocked! I put a bandaid over it and all was well, except that even now a couple of days later the stinking thing still feels like a fresh bruise. Jansen gave me a kiss after I came back with the bandaid on my head, but I really hope that I get better at anticipating these things or I may end up a permanent bruise from head to toe soon!

Sick?

OK, This was Tuesday afternoon when I had to leave work to pick up this turkey from daycare because he was running a fever and was "sick." As soon as we got home he started hamming things up so I grabbed the camera for a quick photo shoot and evidence for when he's older and claims he needs to stay home from school because he's "sick!"
"Hey Mom, check me out! I'm Mr. Silly!"
"Now I'm total GQ material."
...slightly distracted...
...back to silly, but approaching hyper-silly...

...and hyper-silly achieved!

On a side note, he did turn out to have some kind of bug that the antibiotics the doc gave him seems to be knocking out, he just never really acted sick the whole time this round!

Since last post...

I see that there are a couple of you still out there checking in on us! I will keep on posting as if I'm talking to you then! I do check all the blogs I'm following at least weekly if you are wondering, ny the way!!

This week Jansen has stuck with the runny nose and now has developed ANOTHER fever. Ugh! This is getting so frustrating. He seems fine most of the time. He eats, potties, plays, etc. like normal. He does have a moment here and there of crankiness, clinginess, and such but mostly he seems OK, until bedtime. He goes to sleep OK, but wakes up shortly after and can't get back to sleep. Sometimes for hours. This means that Mommy gets little sleep on those nights too. I'm something of a bear some mornings, but at least Jansen naps well for whomever gets the bonus of being around him at naptime. If it's me you can bet I'm joining his so I can catch up a tiny bit on my sleep but unfortunately it isn't me as often as I'd like that gets to benefit from naptime! We called the pediatrician today and he said that if Jansen had another rough night tonite or his fever went up to bring him in tomorrow. We might be looking at a continuation of his other cold, a new cold, or an ear infection. Part of me thinks it might be the 12 month molars trying to rear their head. I guess we are on wait and see.

Jansen also has done some funny things this week. There are pictures of a few of them posted for this week, but one that I didn't get a picture of is my Wii Fit experience with him yesterday. As many of you know I Wii Fit pretty much every night and have lost 16 pounds since we got it. Some nights I have to do it when Jansen is awake and last night Daddy was gone also taking Jonathan home. Jansen is often content to watch the Mii's cheering when I finish something or watching the trainers do the exercises along with me. It's really pretty cute most of the time. When they clap and jump or bend their knees and bounce around to celebrate he does the same thing with a giant smile on his face. It's sooooo fun to watch. Last night started out like that except I was doing the strength training exercises. I had gotten all the way down to the arm and leg extensions. I was on all fours doing the exercises when he decided to lay down under my face and laugh at me. Fine... in fact fun! We were having a good time. It was definitely easier than when he wants to climb on my extended arm or leg or whatever other exercise I'm doing that he climbs on me for and adds extra weight to! That is until he decided to shove his finger all the way up my left nostril while I was in full extension. I swear he was trying to tickle my sinus he had his finger jammed up there so far! I sputtered and dropped the pose, of course and pulled my head away from his nasal violating finger, but he just laughed and giggled so hard he rolled off the Wii Fit Board that he had been sitting on. I picked him up, washed his hands, and assumed the position again to continue the work out. This nose thing had become a game now and so he dove right back in to try again. I was prepared this time though and avoided the attack. He did succeed in getting me to end the work out though! At least I had done my self-required 30 minutes already so it wasn't like I ended too early.

I had a very busy weekend. Friday night Jansen and I went to dinner and to hang out with Ann and Adalyn. We hadn't gotten to hang with them in a while so we stayed out a little late with them, but it was super fun! On Saturday I had the Teens Make a Difference volunteer day with my PALs student in the morning from 9-noon. Then I came home to spend a little time with Jonathan before I had to leave again. Jonathan and I baked the Bat Cake while I was home. That evening I had to sponsor my kids volunteering as the workers for a local company's Halloween Fest. It is a really fun night that we have been invited to volunteer at the last few years. We get to dress up and run game booths so the employees can bring their families and have fun. They do Halloween rather than a company Christmas party or summer picnic. We were there from 4-9 so I got home kind of late again by the time we got everything cleaned up and the kids all delivered home. Sunday was spent with fevering Jansen while Jonathan and Daddy went to church. I had to go get groceries after they got home and then when I got home they had to leave, so I didn't get to see Jonathan very much this weekend. I'll make up for it next time, especially since he's almost 10 then!! Sheesh!! I can't believe he's double digits already!!

Jonathan must have had a pretty good couple of weeks at school because the times I did get to see him this weekend were mostly with him on the video games again. If he hadn't had a good couple of weeks his Dad would have made him do other things like read (*gasp*) or work math problems (*faint*) all weekend! We did get to bake and decorate our annual cake together though so that was really cool. We didn't get time to do pumpkins this year and I'm really bummed about that though. I guess that just means we'll have to do extra fall/birthday stuff next time! I really miss my Uno buddy too, so maybe I can get him to play a few rounds with me next visit!

I'm also supposed to mention that Jonathan is OU (University of Oklahoma for those of you that don't know) crazy and anything OU is on his birthday list... well and Christmas list too he said! I also got out of him that aside from OU stuff he will be adding movies and video games to his Christmas list for Santa and anyone else who is interested!!

There's our past week! Prayers for Jansen to get better and stay better would be greatly appreciated! Mommy's getting worn out and stressed out with these stinky fevers amongst a busy time at work, besides.

Happy Trick-or-Treating! Next week will be full of Halloween Costume posts I'm sure!!

Bat Cake

Every year Jonathan and I do a Halloween cake. We've done a spider and a ghost, so this year we decided on a bat!
THE Bat Cake!
Jonathan and the Bat Cake. This year he did all the mixing and pouring AND decorating! All I really did this time was help measure, pull out of the oven, and frost.
Jansen meets the Bat Cake.
Jansen is curious about exactly how his brother did this cake decorating thing!

VIdeo of just how curious Jansen was about this crazy cake his brother made. Jonathan took a small Halloween cake back to his Mom's with him. This was after Jonathan had left that Jansen got curious or else his brother might have gotten mad at him!
We made the bat cake with a red velvet mix so that it looked like blood inside when it was cut open. Yummy... guts!

Fall

Jansen and Daddy were playing in the front yard Saturday afternoon. It was a beautiful fall day so I took a chance to get a couple of pics of him outside.
Jansen was chilling out in the grass. He wouldn't get up and come to either of us, just sat in the grass. It is nice that he can right now. The summer makes the grass here really dry and pokey, not to mention the ants are EVERYWHERE until it cools off some. It was perfect Saturday though!
For some reason Jansen doesn't like to put his hands in the grass though, so here he was trying to figure out how to get up without touching the ground.

I guess he decided he was content just to sit there instead! I realize we have a huge yard, but as flat as it is here and as tiny as Jansen is it really looks huge in this picture!

Hiding

Jansen took everything out of the cabinet when I was cooking the other day and decided to hide in it...
Here he has crawled inside.
Here he has turned around and is peeking out.

Here you can see all the stuff on the floor he took out to make room for himself. It is also where I put the case of papertowels, but we needed to get more so they were gone from in there when he decided to hide in there! You can see him mad too because he was stuck right before this. He couldn't figure out how to get fully turned around, but in his fit he had and didn't realize it!

Pumpkin Seat

Jansen still was having fun with his pumpkin when it was nearing bedtime the other night! Here he is using it as a seat! He was actually bouncing on it.

Pumpkin Roll

Jansen got to play with his first pumpkin! This is one of the ones that Jonathan and I accidentally started growing a few years ago! We had carved some on the front deck and then some of the guts dropped over the side of the deck. The next year we had a pumpkin patch growing next to the deck!! The pumpkins keep coming back. This year they were a little smaller, but this one is plenty big for Jansen though.

When we got home the other day it was rainy. We had the solid front door open and Jansen was staring at something out of the deck pointing, then looking to see if I was looking too and saying his gibberish words for whatever it was he wanted. I figured out it was the pumpkin so I brought it in for him. It was set from the rain and that crazy kid started licking it. I tried to get the camera really quick because it was pretty funny, but he had moved on to trying to pick it up instead and it kept rolling away from him making him mad. He was persistent though!

Roll Call

Daddy seems to think no one is out there peeking in on us anymore now that Jansen is one. If you will, please leave us a comment that you are still checking up on us, or email me if that is easier! We are just wondered if this blog has become a "just for us" thing or if there's anyone still interested in following us. I'm not going to stop either way mind you, but it may direct the way I say things since if no one else is there anymore I'll start just doing diary type posts instead of "talking" you you all!

Update!!

We have been battling "bugs" here since school started. Jansen just finally got through all his sickness and then this past Thursday he got struck again with another cold. This cough is nasty this rough again too.

I have been fighting the sore throat, sniffles along with him. Finally mine turned into a sinus infection (the doc tested me for flu and it was negative but she refused to believe it) and I was kept home from work for 2 days until my fever went away. I finished my antibiotics and started feeling better then Richard caught a fever.

Richard battled his sniffles and fever for a few days and is finally starting to feel better. Now we just need to get Jansen healthy again! Sheesh!

Amidst all this sickness, work has remained busy for me. We had a student that was hit by a car a few weeks ago. He was in really bad shape, but has made some remarkable improvements. He wasn't expected to survive the weekend he was hit, but he did! Then he was paralyzed from the neck down and needed breathing assistance. He was never supposed to regain movement from the head down again. We got word just this week that he is moving his feet and arms. We haven't heard that officially, but it does sound promising. We (My PALs class and I) organized a benefit for him and raised $4500!! For putting it all together in less than 2 weeks, we were really excited to raise so much for him!!

I now am behind on my Junior High One-Act Play so we have to head full force into that the next couple of weeks. I have my High School show chosen and ready to go when I finish with the JH in November. I also have my Junior High musical all ready to go for the spring. I am ready to get a move on things once my student teacher finishes, so at least I'm feeling prepared this time around. She is doing a great job so I will be sad for her to go, but I'm also ready to TEACH again!!

We have Jonathan's birthday coming up in a couple of weeks!! We are entering the double digits with him this year!! It's so exciting!!! 4th grade is proving to be more of a challenge than the previous years so I don't think he's enjoying school much so far this year, but we are working on it! Having a teacher around with teacher friends may be helpful over the next several years as subjects get tougher, we'll have to see. Unless it's English, Reading, or Drama and the other arts I'm a little out of my element, but I DO have contacts to tap into when we need them! So far we're hanging in there, though!! I hope I can keep up with the math... that's my biggest worry in helping him at this point. I may be keeping Laura on speed dial for his weekends since that's her forte and she understands it's not mine!

Other than Jonathan's birthday approaching, work and sickness there is not much news from this front that I haven't posted with pictures already. I just hadn't done a written update that was more detailed in a while so I thought I'd clue you all in for now!

Sleepy Spaghetti

This weekend was gorgeous weather-wise so we got a lot done! The house was cleaned really good, the yard was spruced up, Jansen and I went to see the CV Band march in contest, got groceries, laundry done, and so on. This meant that by Sunday evening our littlest family member was worn smooth out! He couldn't even stay awake to eat his spaghetti (which he usually devours). I had to keep rousing him just to get enough dinner in him to make sure he didn't wake up hungry in less than an hour! He had his face down in the pasta, but when I turned on the camera his head popped up, but his eyes didn't open!
Still has hands in food, but just can't stay awake long enough to get it to his mouth and chew!

So sleepy!!!

Just bein' cute

Mommy's Helper

Helping Mommy fold the clean laundry!
Mommy puts wet clothes in the dryer, Jansen takes them out again!

Sweep the floor!

Actually Jansen is really great at trying to help me with the cleaning. I pray that it sticks through pre-teens at least!!! He especially likes to grab the deck broom and drag it around the house since he can't get to the house broom with the dust pan (his very favorite cleaning tool) when it's put up. The deck broom stands right by the back door so he can get to that one pretty easily. He also throws all the clean laundry out of the basket when I set it down to fold them and takes his clean clothes one piece at a time to his room and throws them over the gate onto his floor. I guess at least he gets it in his room!

I think I must know how "Polly" felt when "Suki" came behind her regarding the teapot! I have a modified version of their rhyme that goes through my head when we do laundry:

Mommy put the wet clothes in,
Mommy put the wet clothes in,
Mommy put the wet clothes in
It's laundry day - today.

Jansen takes the wet clothes out,
Jansen takes the wet clothes out,
Jansen takes the wet clothes out
He thinks it's time to - play!

Bladder Blasting

This is what Mommy gets when she doesn't have jammies, diaper, and lotion ready to go before we get out of the bath. I dried Jansen off and THEN went to get everything together thinking naked time would be fun for him. WRONG!! Well, maybe right, but not fun for Mommy! He peed on the bed and through the crib slats to the floor while waiting for me. I guess the warm bath water stimulated the bladder and "freedom" meant taking the opportunity to sprinkle the bedroom. I learned!!!

Hairy Boy!

Grandma Vicki pointed out that Jansen's hair is getting really long. This post is just to show how long it really is!!
Long wet hair from the back in the tub...
"You snappin' pics of me again, Mommy?"
Towel dried craziness...
More wild towel drying!
"I'll do it Mommy!"
Dry, Jansen combed and STILL wild!
Check out those fuzzy locks!

Cute little flips over the ears now...

I know I really need to go get his hair cut, but there is such a finality to the baby stage when he gets his first hair cut. I feel like he officially stops being a baby and hits toddler full-on once we cross that big milestone of "first haircut." I know it's silly and sentimental, but there you have it. Be patient with me as I come to terms with my baby growing up so fast!!
