It's funny how favorite foods go in phases! Used to be sweet potatoes, pears, and Baby Mum-Mums. Now it seems we've graduated to Mandarin Oranges, Bananas, and GRITS!! We stumbled on grits by accident a few weeks ago. We had gone to Cracker Barrel for dinner before the Homecoming Game at the school and Jansen was rather restless. It seemed that he couldn't decide what it was he wanted to eat. I remembered Grandma Aud giving me grits with a smidge of butter and a pinch of brown sugar. I've only ever eaten them that way ever since. I had my grits all prepped for my dinner and on a whim offered Jansen a bite. Wouldn't you know... he LOVED them and ate them all. Then when he got put on the antibiotics for his sinus infection he couldn't eat yogurt (his usual breakfast had been bananas and yogurt) so I started giving him grits (Grandma Aud's way) for breakfast. Now I can't even get him from the bedroom to the kitchen without him bouncing on my arm and grunting and groaning until I start making the grits. When they are done he goes, "Mmmmmmm" until he gets seated and starts eating them. I can't even pause. He gets frustrated if I don't have the next bite ready by the time he swallows the previous one! Great Googly-Moogly! This kid is Grit-crazy! I even had to start giving him his own utensil so that he feels like he's shoveling it in fast enough. It is quite funny! He's the same way with mandarin oranges. I can't get them out of the container and on to the tray fast enough! Other things he'll take or leave but if I let him he'd probably sustain himself entirely on Grits and Mandarin Oranges!
