Vancouver: Monday June 29

Monday we got up and took John to work so we could borrow the car for our day at Stanley Park. Stanley Park is HUGE and has tons of stuff to do in it. There are sports fields, playgrounds, a petting zoo (farm animals), horse-drawn carriage rides, various scenic or artistic lookouts, walk paths, miniture train ride, a beach access with a pool also, and the Vancouver Aquarium is within the park grounds. It was a very full day and we only got to bits of it!
All wide awake early even with a time change!!

Ready for a great day!
Daddy and the boys at the Story Poles in Stanley Park. The First Nations refer to them as story poles because they tell a story rather than just being totem poles.

Jansen hitching a ride on the walk path along the waterfront.

View of the Marina from the walk path.

The Belugas at the aquarium. We didn't get too many more pics at the aquarium because it was PACKED and we hardly had room to stand and take any without being in the way of someone. We did get some video on the video camera, but not so much on the still camera. It was a nice aquarium, but so busy! They have had two baby belugas born there within a year or so. I guess that's really rare so it is a popular place right now because you can see them in the whale nursery. We didn't stand in that line, but we did get to see the ones swimming in the outdoor pool.
The mini-train.

Waiting for the train to take off.

On the walk paths there were so many giant trees. Jonathan actually fit inside the trunk of this one!

We went to Second Beach Pool and beach. Yes we did swim, even though it was pretty cold. So cold in fact that the lifeguard was in sweats!

Proof that it was chilly, though it really seemed chillier than what it says here. Showing is Air Temp, Ocean Temp, and Pool Temp. There is NO WAY that pool was 79 degrees by the way!
Walking along the beach at Second Beach.
Jansen's first experience in the Pacific Ocean. I don't know too many land-locked North Texas babies that have gone so far South to get in the Atlantic Ocean and so far North to experience the Pacific all before his fist birthday! Daddy and Big Brother were caught on the video camera for thier frolick in the ocean, but we haven't figured out how to get that loaded on here yet!

The pool that was supposedly heated. It was pretty cool that it was right on the beach and we were overlooking the ocean while swimming in the pool!

Leaving Stanley Park I saw that they had palm trees. I hadn't realized that they grew near any ocean, not just in warmer climates! I had to take a picture. Not to mention that the view was pretty nice too!
