Vancouver: Sunday June 28

We kicked off our vacation site seeing right away on Sunday! We started at the Vancouver Maritime Museum where John dropped us off and ended the day at the Kids Market area on Granville Island. "The boys" at the Maritime Museum's big ship. They are standing at the base of the ship on the basement level. The museum is built around the ship on two levels. You actually get to tour the ship too, but we were separated for that since Jansen and I couldn't climb to the captains area where Jonathan and Richard started so this is the best "ship" pic we have.

There was a kids area that had some Marine themed esperiments. Here's Jonathan in the deep sea diver helmet.

They had a tug-boat simulator too so they played in there some!

After the museum we went out on the grounds down by the water. Up just a little ways was a special beach. It was for dogs to run loose and play in the surf. We didn't know that's what it was until we walked down there, but the view was nice and it was a cool concept so we stopped for a bit to watch the dogs playing and take a couple of pics.

Us on the dog beach.

You can see people playing with their dogs here. Some were tossing sticks and floats into the ocean for the dogs to swim for and others were just playing on the sand. There were people who seemed "dog-less" that were laying out on the beach. Given it's purpose and the fact that there are no specific "elimination" areas on the beach we thought that was a little gross!

Up by the museum there was a walkway and a grassy sitting area. Great city scape behind the boys in these shots! Here Jansen is adjusting to the grass a little.

Jonathan went way far for his pic, so he's a little small here but he did make is scenic that way!

From there we took a ferry to Granville Island. It was primarily an entire island of markets. It was great to see even though we are not shoppers and there was a whole section just for kids. There was even a big free spray water park at the kids market, but we didn't have suits with us so we mostly hung out and relaxed while watching the others play. They even had water slides! Jonathan did get Richard to do a little playing around in there, but since they were in street clothes it wasn't much.

Jonathan on the ferry.

A Canadian flag snapping in the wind on the shore as we passed on the ferry.

Jonathan was facinated by the barnicles. You can't see it in this pic, but there is a whole bunch of pier supports here all covered with them way up past our heads! Cool!

We had a great view of one section of the market from the balcony where we had lunch. It was soooo busy!

Here we all are lounging on the hill by the spray park. Jansen really got Daddy good on this one!
So that was our FIRST day of sight seeing and it was FULL!! John picked us up at the kids market area and we were beat! Between adjusting to the time difference, all the walking around, and just the amount there was to see our first day we were bushed by the time we got in that night.
Speaking of being beat. It has taken me three full days to get these pics organized and sorted, and the internet is sluggish tonight. I will post more tomorrow, but for tonight I am about to fall off to sleep as I type and am headed to bed! More to come...
