Tuesday we went to Whistler Mountain. It is a little bit of a drive from the city of Vancouver, but it was gorgeous! It is where the 2010 Winter Olympics events will be held. We crossed the famous Lions Gate Bridge to get there and then on the way back to Vancouver we stopped at Shannon Falls.
Approaching Lion's Gate Bridge.

Just one of the "little" resorts that will service the Olympic crowds on Whistler.

The Blackcomb area where all the action will begin for the Olympics. It is here that everyone will converge to catch the appropriate lifts and get footage for the games. It is the central hub, I guess you'd say.
We took two different lifts to see the Mountain tops. The first is a little geriatric compared to the brand new second one, but it is a small gondola that fit just the 7 of us. Keep in mind that one of "us" was an infant so it really seats 6! I guess the closest thing I'd have to reference it to is one of those cage things on the ferris wheel thing at Great America or Six Flags. The big difference is that it has windows instead of the cage bars and works like a chair lift rather than a ferris wheel!

Jamal and Jonathan hanging on for dear life!

The second lift is a much bigger one called Peak to Peak. You can see the car behind this adorable kid smiling away!

I got to hang out with that cutie pie from the other picture!

Speaking of cuties... check out this pair!

Just thought I'd toss a couple of these in here to show that we are on over a mile of unsupported cable to reach the second peak while riding the "Peak to Peak" lift.

From the top of Whistler Mountain once we got there.
Jansen's first experience with snow. He didn't care much for it. I'm hoping as a snow lover myself that it will change over time! If not I may never get to ski again!
Heading back down Whistler in the big lift. We almost missed it! None of us heard the "last call" to ride down. The operator said she had actually begun shutting down, but she let us hitch our ride back after all. It would have been a crazy long walk down otherwise, not to mention the possibility of meeting bears up close and personal!
On the drive home we stopped off at Shannon Falls. Can you say b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l?!?! It is soooo clear and fresh!
It's a little far away, but the water comes from the very top of this mountain and runs pretty much straight down until it reaches the near bottom where it tumbles over these rocks that we were climbing on. It is glacial melt so it is naturally cold and crisp, but far enough past the original melt that it was not frigid where we were, just refreshing!
